Broadcom Earnings: The AI Bar Gets Higher

Broadcom before earnings: AI infrastructure and price action.

Broadcom has a date with the AI trade. The chip and infrastructure software company reports fiscal third-quarter results after the close on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Shares opened Monday at $367.71, down 0.29% on the latest quote, and still sit well below the 52-week high of $495. The setup is simple to say and hard to trade: the business is accelerating, but expectations are sprinting too.

I have learned to treat these reports less like a verdict and more like a pressure test. The first question is not whether Broadcom can print a big number. It is whether the next number is big enough to keep the AI leaders moving together.

THE SETUP IS MOVING

One number can reset the whole AI tape. Track custom-chip demand, networking, and the market’s response in real time with AlphaX Options.

Why AVGO is the stock to watch

Broadcom’s own guide sets the hurdle. Management expects about $29.4 billion in fiscal Q3 revenue and roughly $16 billion from AI semiconductors, up more than 200% from a year ago. The company also says fiscal 2027 AI semiconductor revenue can top $100 billion. Those figures explain why AVGO belongs on the Alpha Dashboard watchlist: the dashboard helps separate a real sector bid from a single headline spike.

The dashboard view is already useful context. Its live snapshot shows Tech as the largest bullish flow pocket at $51.9 million, while NVDA carries a strong trend score. Open the dashboard’s Tech and trend panels before the report and you can see the question AVGO must answer: does custom silicon add breadth to the AI move, or does the flow stay concentrated in the biggest names?

Levels and the earnings map

AVGO has spent August unwinding a sharp summer run. The daily chart shows a fall from the $420s into the mid-$350s, followed by a bounce toward the high $360s. That leaves a clean map for the event, not a prediction.

  • $355–$362: the recent support zone. A break would say the market wants proof before it pays for more growth.
  • $368–$372: the first reclaim area, near the latest quote and Monday’s intraday high.
  • $379: near-term supply on the chart. A clean move above it would put the late-August recovery on firmer ground.

The risk is not only a miss. Broadcom can beat and still sell off if the AI guide feels old, the margin outlook slips, or customer spending sounds less durable. That is the lesson from crowded AI trades: the stock reacts to the gap between the number and the number investors already priced in.

What to watch after the bell

  • AI semiconductor revenue versus the $16 billion guide.
  • Custom accelerator demand and networking mix.
  • Comments on hyperscaler capex and the path to $100 billion-plus in fiscal 2027 AI revenue.
  • Whether the dashboard’s bullish Tech breadth expands beyond the mega-cap leaders.

Broadcom’s Sept. 2 release is the next clean read on the AI infrastructure chain. The strongest outcome is not merely a beat; it is evidence that custom silicon and networking are widening the trade. The weaker outcome is a good quarter that cannot clear a very high bar.
