Monday, Sept. 14: Intel is giving the AI trade a stress test. The stock opened at $96.52, down 6.24%, while the Alpha Dashboard still ranked INTC first in trend strength with $7.7 million in bullish premium. That gap is the story.
Most traders see a red semiconductor tape and move on. I get it. I have watched plenty of “great story” names lose their chart in one ugly opening print. But Intel is different today because price and options flow are arguing in public. The market is selling the stock. The dashboard is still showing demand.
The useful question is not whether Intel is bullish or bearish. It is whether Monday’s drop is a reset of a crowded trade or a clean break in the turnaround setup. That answer lives in the levels, the next catalyst, and whether the flow panel keeps holding its ground.
Why the dashboard still favors Intel
The latest Alpha Dashboard view is unusually clear. Intel carries a +100 trend-strength score and leads the bullish leaderboard with $7.7 million across seven orders. Tech is also the dominant sector, with $27.3 million across 21 bullish trades. That makes INTC more than a one-name blip. It is the market’s cleanest test of whether AI infrastructure money is rotating into the manufacturing and server layer.
There is a second clue. The dashboard shows the bullish signal even as the broader chip tape is under pressure. Intel’s current quote was $96.52 at 11:03 a.m. ET, down $6.42. NVIDIA was down 3.63%, AMD was down 5.90%, and the semiconductor ETF SMH was down 4.91%. Intel is taking the harder hit, but that also creates a better read: the dashboard signal now has to survive an actual risk-off session, not a quiet drift higher.

The Intel chart has a simple line in the sand

The chart shows why the round number matters. Intel’s latest daily bar closed at $96.39. The 20-day EMA sat near $96.61, and the 50-day SMA was near $97.87. Those averages are packed together just below $100. When moving averages cluster, the next close often says more than the intraday swing.
- Recovery line: $100. A close back above it would repair the round-number break.
- First support: $96.60, near the 20-day EMA. Holding it would keep the short-term trend alive.
- Failure zone: $94.50, Monday’s early low. A clean break would put the July-to-September rebound on pause.
- Upside test: $106.69, the recent 20-day high. That is where price would need to return before the dashboard signal looks confirmed again.
The volume read matters too. Monday’s opening volume was light compared with the heavy bars that built the summer rebound. That does not make the drop harmless. It does say the first move has not yet proved it can become a full-session liquidation wave.
The catalyst is real, but so is the risk
Intel’s next scheduled earnings report is Oct. 22 after the close. In its latest official release, Intel reported Q2 revenue of $16.1 billion, DCAI revenue of $6.3 billion, and foundry revenue of $5.8 billion. The company also said 18A entered risk production and guided Q3 revenue to $15.8 billion–$16.8 billion. Read Intel’s release for the full catalyst list.
That gives the bullish flow a real event to point toward. It also sets a high bar. The market wants proof that AI demand can keep filling Intel’s factories while foundry execution improves. If Monday’s selloff fades above $94.50 and price retakes $100, the dashboard and chart start speaking the same language. If $94.50 fails, the cleaner read is that flow strength is early, not confirmed.
