After the Rally: Is a Market Pullback Brewing? Two Stocks Flash Unusual Activity Amid the Calm

After weeks of relentless green in the markets, we’re finally reaching that point: air feels thin, price action is stretched, and chatter of “healthy pullback” is making the rounds on trading desks. If you’ve been riding this rally, congrats—especially if you got in ahead of the tech surge and rate-hike optimism that’s fueled it.

But here’s the thing about strong rallies—they usually don’t end with a bang. Instead, they coast into complacency. That’s when smart money starts adjusting, hedging, or quietly making bold contrarian bets.

That’s exactly what we picked up today using our Options Activity Scanner (OAS). And two names—Tesla (TSLA) and Snowflake (SNOW)—are seeing action that’s too big to ignore.

Let’s break it down.

TSLA: Big Sweeps, Bigger Bets

At 12:54 PM and again at 1:33 PM, our scanner flagged back-to-back sweep orders for Tesla calls expiring on July 18, 2025—a full 14 months out.

  • First trade: 1,500 contracts on the $475 strike, with a premium of $1.3 million, executed at $8.60.
  • Second trade: 3,119 contracts on the $480 strike, with a total premium of $2.6 million, executed at $8.21.

Both trades came in as sweeps, meaning the buyer was trying to fill the order across multiple exchanges fast—classic behavior when someone doesn’t want to miss a move. And with the stock currently trading around $349.75, these are deep out-of-the-money leaps, betting that Tesla has serious upside over the next year.

This is more than just your average YOLO retail trade. This is institutional behavior—forward-looking, aggressive, and high-conviction.

So what’s the play here?

Maybe it’s AI, maybe it’s Robotaxis, or maybe these traders believe Tesla will once again reprice itself as a tech stock, not a car company. Either way, the size and distance on these calls suggest they’re betting on a major run, not just a small rebound.

SNOW: Quiet Confidence Ahead of Earnings?

Then there’s Snowflake (SNOW), a name that’s been under the radar recently—but not for long.

At 11:38 AM, a sweep for 1,486 contracts of the May 23, 2025 $185 calls came through, costing a total of $1.3 million. With the stock currently at $182.54, this is essentially an at-the-money leap—a bet that SNOW will trade higher over the next year.

What’s particularly interesting? This comes just days before earnings season heats up, and in a sector (tech) where expectations are being recalibrated fast.

Snowflake has had its share of volatility, but its core value proposition—cloud data warehousing, AI integration, and strong enterprise relationships—hasn’t changed. And with valuations in the cloud space starting to look more reasonable, this might be a bet on renewed institutional interest.

Pullback or Launchpad?

The broader market may be due for a breather. That’s not a hot take—it’s just what happens after 10–15% runs in a short time. Indicators like RSI are stretched, sentiment surveys are bullish to a fault, and even the most risk-averse investors are feeling FOMO.

But while the average retail trader might look to take profits, the big money is showing us something different: they’re positioning for continuation.

TSLA and SNOW may not be tomorrow’s breakout names—but they’re being primed by big players for significant moves in the months ahead. That kind of unusual option activity, especially on distant expirations, is often a canary in the coal mine… not of danger, but of opportunity.

Keep your eye on these names. When the pullback does come, it could be the perfect entry for those who missed the initial leg up. And if these big bets are right, we’ll be seeing these strikes in the money before long.

The Bottom Line

Markets may look ready for a pause, but under the surface, the smart money is already looking ahead. That’s what makes our OAS so powerful—it cuts through the noise and surfaces conviction plays you’d otherwise miss.

Whether you’re trimming positions or eyeing entries, pay attention to where capital is flowing—not where the headlines are screaming. TSLA and SNOW are getting loaded up with serious call buying… and that’s a signal worth watching.

Trade smart,
