The AI trade did not move as one block this week. The Alpha Dashboard would have shown the split clearly: AMD surged into Friday’s close, while Broadcom absorbed a sharp reset. The major averages still looked calm, but the leadership tape was doing something more useful than simply going up.
Friday ended quietly. QQQ closed at 731.07, after a week that carried it from 720.87 to 731.07. Bitcoin held near 63,000, but the cleaner story was inside semiconductors: AMD finished at 514.39, NVDA at 225.16, and AVGO at 392.99.
The key question for Monday is simple: does the market reward the winners that are accelerating, or does it pull the whole AI basket back toward the laggard?
The divergence is the signal
If AMD keeps pressing higher while AVGO cannot reclaim its breakdown zone, the dashboard’s flow and breadth panels may tell a more honest story than the headline index.
AMD led, AVGO lagged
AMD rose from 469.56 on Monday to 514.39 on Friday, a gain of roughly 9.5%. TSLA also pushed higher, ending at 342.27 after touching 351.26. NVDA gained about 3.5% across the week. The outlier was AVGO, down about 7% from Monday’s close.

This is where the dashboard helps. Do not ask if “AI” is up. Open the Alpha Dashboard flow and trend panels. They show which names have fresh flow, which are losing breadth, and where options are building pressure. Each ticker tells a different story.
What changed since Friday?
- AMD: the week’s clearest upside leader, with Friday volume near 25.6 million shares.
- AVGO: the weak link, with Friday volume more than twice its Monday level as price broke lower.
- NVDA: steady rather than explosive, still sitting near the week’s highs ahead of its Aug. 26 earnings date.
- Bitcoin: down roughly 1.5% for the week, a softer risk signal than the equity tape.
That mix matters. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq each posted a third straight weekly gain. Friday still slipped as investors weighed soft retail sales and new Middle East headlines, according to Reuters’ market wrap. The index can stay firm while AI names change character.
On my radar for next week
Monday’s calendar is light, and the week’s bigger scheduled catalysts are industrial production, housing data, the FOMC minutes, and retail earnings. The next major AI date is NVDA’s Aug. 26 report, which keeps the dashboard’s trend, flow, and call-wall panels in focus.

My read: watch the gap between speed and support. If AMD keeps drawing demand while AVGO stays heavy, the market is not rejecting AI. It is picking which part of the buildout gets the next dollar. The dashboard can show that shift before the index does.
P.S. Monday’s first move may matter less than the names that hold their Friday levels. The AlphaX Options flow map is built for that opening-hour check.
