SpaceX IPO Friday: The Biggest in History

I was looking at the bar chart of the largest IPOs in history late last night and had to triple-check the SpaceX number. It’s not a typo. SpaceX is going public Friday at a $1.77 trillion valuation and raising $75 billion in the offering — roughly 2.5 times what Saudi Aramco raised in 2019, which had stood as the all-time record for almost seven years.

One company. One Friday. More capital raised than the next two biggest IPOs in history combined.

SpaceX’s $75B raise is 2.5x the previous record and more than the next two biggest IPOs combined.

The numbers behind SPCX

Here’s the setup. SpaceX prices Thursday after the close. First trade is Friday on Nasdaq. Ticker is SPCX. The offer is fixed at $135 a share, 555.6 million shares total. The greenshoe adds another 83.3 million if demand runs hot. That pushes the deal to roughly $86 billion. Goldman is lead. Morgan Stanley, BofA, Citi, and JPMorgan are on the syndicate. The retail window closes today.

If it prices as filed, the valuation lands at $1.77 trillion. That’s the 6th largest US company on day one. Bigger than Tesla’s $1.49T. Bigger than Meta’s $1.48T. Just under Amazon at $2.63T.

A mega-cap born on Friday. Forced index buying will chew through float for weeks. SPCX flow will be the spine of the tape next week.

Why this is the Chart of the Day

The chart above is a story you can read in three seconds: every other mega-IPO in history is a $15-30B range. SpaceX is going to clear that ceiling by a factor of two and a half. That’s not a degree-of-magnitude difference — that’s a regime change in what a primary offering can absorb.

For context: $75B is more than Boeing’s annual revenue. More than the GDP of Lithuania or Luxembourg. All of it on one Friday print.

DASHBOARD WATCH — FRIDAY OPEN

First-trade volatility on a mega-IPO is where the flow desks make their week.

AlphaX Options is tracking the SPCX setup and the cross-flow into TSLA, NVDA, and the BTC complex. See how the desk is positioning →

The cross-asset wrinkle: SpaceX holds 8,285 BTC

This one slipped past most of the coverage. SpaceX is going public with 8,285 BTC on its balance sheet. The coins sit in Coinbase Prime custody. At $61,180 BTC, that’s about half a billion in crypto inside a $1.77T equity wrapper. SPCX becomes a cross-asset trading vehicle on day one. BTC moves will show up in the SPCX tape. SPCX flushes will leak into MSTR, COIN, and IBIT.

For anyone running the Alpha Dashboard through the crypto-equity lens, this is a new node. Friday morning the dashboard will be sorting flow across BTC and SPCX at the same time. The correlation between them will redraw the way the desk thinks about MSTR and IBIT.

The other thing the chart doesn’t show

SPCX is going public at roughly 94x trailing sales. SpaceX did $18.67B of revenue in 2025 on a $4.9B net loss. The price is paying for the next ten years of Starlink scale, the xAI merger, and the Mars roadmap. Not the current cash flows. Morningstar’s fair value is about half the offer.

None of that is a reason to fade it on Friday. New mega-caps with forced index inclusion rarely trade rationally in the first month. The structural buyers don’t care about the multiple. The retail allocation is up to 30% of the deal, against the typical 3-10%. That’s a lot of price-insensitive holders. And the lockups release in stages — first 7% at day 70, fully out at day 180.

What to watch into Friday

  • Thursday after close: Final pricing. The fixed $135 is the floor; if institutional demand overruns the book, the syndicate can adjust before open.
  • Friday open volatility: SPCX is the first trade of an $86B deal with constrained float. Expect a wide opening range and outsized first-hour gamma.
  • TSLA reaction: Tesla closed -3% Tuesday at $396.68. Pre-IPO compression in Musk-adjacent names is a real thing. Watch whether TSLA bounces post-SPCX or whether the capital rotation continues.
  • BTC sympathy: SpaceX’s BTC treasury makes SPCX a partial BTC proxy. If BTC rips into Friday, SPCX gets a tailwind. If it flushes, SPCX opens into a headwind.
  • Day-70 lockup release (Aug 21): The first 7% tranche unlocks. That’s the date the float meaningfully changes.

The Chart of the Day isn’t a price chart this time — there is no SPCX price chart yet. It’s the bar chart of every mega-IPO that came before it, with SpaceX towering over the field. Friday morning, the second-tallest bar on that chart becomes a footnote. That’s what the dashboard will be reading when the bell rings.

P.S. The retail registration window closes today. Whether you’re playing the open or just watching the tape, the first hour Friday is going to be one of the most-watched first hours in market history. AlphaX Options will be on the flow live.
